How to add an email account to Gmail

Adding an IMAP mailbox in Gmail consists of two parts. Being allowed to mail on behalf of the mail address (Send As) and seeing all (old) mail coming in. For the mail to work properly in Gmail, we recommend linking the account to both.

For mail to work properly, you will also need to make sure the following DNS changes are active:

See IMAP Mail and Set up send mail as in Gmail

  1. Log in to your Gmail account through the Gmail website (www.gmail.com).
  2. Click on the gear icon in the top right corner and select "Settings" from the dropdown menu.
  3. Go to the "Accounts and Import" tab at the top of the settings menu.
  4. Under the "Send mail as" section, click on the "Add another email address" link.

  6. Import emails from my other account (POP3) is the only option, click Next.
  7. When prompted for the SMTP server, enter the following information:
    1. Username: the mail address (in our example info@cloud86example.com)
    2. Password: the password associated with the email address.
    3. POP Server: enter the outgoing mail server, in our example cloud86example.com, replace it with your own domain, or in case of an external website with the Plesk server address (see manual: Using Cloud86's mail server with external website).
    4. Port: use your 995 (this is SSL, non-SSL 110)
    5. Enter your username (the email address) and password.
    6. Select the desired options. If you are using Port 995, at least check Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail.
  8. Click the Add Account button.

Troubleshooting

Authentication failed

Check the email address and password, you may have made a typo. You can also check the password by logging into the webmail (guide: Mailing via Webmail).

Unable to establish secure SSL connection

Check the port number of the POP Server (995) and check if the SSL Certificate of your website is active. You do this by checking that all SSL components in Plesk are set to green (guide: requesting free SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt).
