Adding email account in New Outlook (Windows)

Adding email to New Outlook

  1. In Outlook, click the cog icon at the top right.
  2. In the pop-up menu, click Add Account.
  3. In the new pop-up menu, enter your e-mail and click Continue. This takes a while and may result in an error message, which is normal.
  4. Click on Advanced Setup.
  5. Click on IMAP.
  6. Enter the password from the email and click Show More and turn off Use Recommended Settings and wait until there is no loading circle after Use Recommended Settings.
  7. Enter the requested IMAP settings:
    • IMAP incoming server: set the Secure connection type to SSL/TLS, Port to 993 and enter the incoming mail server, which is by default your domain, in our example cloud86example.com. Replace this with your own domain, or for an external website with the Plesk server address (see manual: How to use the Cloud86 mail server with an external website and Plesk: Where can I find my server name and ip address?).
    • SMTP Configuration:
      • SMTP Username and password: The username is the email address you are trying to add and the password is for that email address, do fill it in, because it sometimes doesn't correctly take over the original password.
      • SMTP Outgoing server set the Secure connection type to SSL/TLS, Port to 465 and enter the same value as for the IMAP incoming server, in our example cloud86example.com. Again, replace this with your own domain, or for an external website with the Plesk server address.
  8. Click Continue.
  9. Microsoft gives a warning here that all data, e-mail and contacts from the IMAP mailbox will be copied to Microsoft. If you agree to this, click Continue. If you don't want this, you will have to switch back to Classic Outlook.

Troubleshooting

I get an error when adding the account
Double check the IMAP and SMTP settings, especially the password and hostname.

If you still experience an error, there is a known bug with the new Outlook, where if you have entered the wrong information the first time, it will not update this correctly in subsequent attempts. Our advice is to wait for one day and then add the account again, this often resolves the issue. You can verify this bug, by adding a new/other mail account from the same domain.
