In addition to our shared hosting, we also offer the Managed VPS. You can run everything on it that you can run on our shared hosting. In addition, we can also prepare extra software for you on the server in consultation. Below is some of the software we support on the Managed VPS that we are regularly asked about.
Available
Node.js
Node.js is a cross-platform, open-source JavaScript runtime environment that can run on Windows, Linux, Unix, macOS, and more. Node.js runs on the V8 JavaScript engine and executes JavaScript code outside a web browser. With Node.js, developers can use JavaScript to write command line and server-side scripts.
Python
Python is a high-level, general-purpose programming language. Its design philosophy emphasizes code readability through the use of significant indentation. Python supports dynamic typing and has automatic garbage collection. It supports multiple programming paradigms, including structured, object-oriented, and functional programming.
Composer
Composer is an application-level dependency manager for the PHP programming language that provides a standard format for managing dependencies of PHP software and required libraries. It was developed by Nils Adermann and Jordi Boggiano, who continue to maintain the project.
WP-CLI
WP-CLI is the command line for WordPress. You can update plugins, configure multisite installations, and much more, without using a web browser. These options are also available on Managed WordPress and Managed WooCommerce.
Redis Cache
Redis is an open source, in-memory storage, used as a distributed, in-memory key-value database, cache, and message broker, with optional durability. It is active on all our Managed Packages (Managed WordPress, Managed WooCommerce, and Managed VPS).
Joomla Toolkit
Joomla, also called Joomla! and sometimes abbreviated as J!, is a free and open-source content management system for publishing web content on websites. Web content applications include discussion forums, photo galleries, e-commerce and user communities, and many other web-based applications (https://www.plesk.com/joomla-toolkit/).
Note: The standard Joomla CMS can be installed on our shared hosting, and if you would like help installing a fresh Joomla installation, you can also send a message to support (see bottom of the page). The Joomla Toolkit is only available on the Managed VPS.
LiteMage License
LiteMage is a Magento 2 extension that communicates with your installation of LiteSpeed Web Server and the built-in page cache to speed up your Magento 2 store and ensure that your customers come back.
Memcached
Memcached is a general-purpose distributed memory-caching system. It is often used to speed up dynamic database-driven websites by caching data and objects in RAM to reduce the number of times an external data source must be read. Memcached is free and open-source software, licensed under the revised BSD license.
MongoDB
MongoDB is an open source, cross-platform, document-oriented database program. Classified as a NoSQL database product, MongoDB uses JSON-like documents with optional schemas. MongoDB is developed by MongoDB Inc., and the current versions are licensed under the Server Side Public License.
PostgreSQL
PostgreSQL, also known as Postgres, is a free and open-source relational database management system that emphasizes extensibility and SQL compliance.
SupervisorD
Supervisor is a client/server system that allows users to control a number of processes on UNIX-like operating systems.
NPX
NPX stands for Node Package eXecute. It is simply an NPM package runner. It allows developers to run any JavaScript package available in the NPM registry without even installing it.
Yarn
Yarn is one of the main JavaScript package managers, developed in 2016 by Sebastian McKenzie of Meta for the Node.js JavaScript runtime environment.
Not Available
The following components cannot be made available on a Managed VPS:
- Plesk DNS server
- NGINX web server/reverse proxy. Setting up a proxy is possible via the LiteSpeed web server.
- WP Toolkit Smart Updates
- MariaDB version
