Enable or disable registrar/transfer lock

When registering or transferring certain domain name extensions, a transfer lock is automatically applied by the registrar based on ICANN regulations. This security measure prevents a domain name from being transferred immediately without authorization. A well-known example of this is the .com extension.

If you want to transfer a domain name to another provider, the transfer lock must first be disabled. This is always done at the current provider where the domain name is hosted at that time.

  • Transferring a domain name to Cloud86: before the transfer, you must have the transfer lock removed by your current provider (and, if required, request the transfer code).
  • Transferring a domain name away from Cloud86: If you want to transfer a domain name away from Cloud86, you can find the steps below to disable the transfer lock via the MyCloud86 environment.

If it is not possible to disable the transfer lock via MyCloud86 while this is required for your domain name extension, please contact our support department for further assistance.


Login on My Cloud86 Dashboard

Use the following steps to log in to Cloud86:

  1. Go to the url: my.cloud86.io
  2. Enter the email address you used when registering.
  3. When you placed the order, you provided a password for your account. Forgot which password you used? Then have a new one sent to you via the forgotten password link.

Modify registrar/transfer lock

  1. In My Cloud86, click on Domains and then My Domains.
  2. In the overview, search for the domain name for which you want to modify the registrar/transfer lock and click on the 3 dots behind the domain, then choose Manage domain.
  3. It may take a moment to retrieve the domain details. Afterwards, under Manage you can click on Registrar Lock to enable or disable it. It takes approximately 10 minutes for this to be processed.
