WordPress: WP Toolkit

WordPress Toolkit is a WordPress management extension integrated into the Plesk hosting control panel. It provides a centralized dashboard that allows you to install, manage, secure, update, and maintain one or multiple WordPress websites from a single interface. Below we show some of the most used features of the WordPress Toolkit.

Login on Plesk Control Panel

  1. In My Cloud86 (link), click in the left menu on My Services.
  2. Click the 3 dots behind the web hosting package you want to see in Plesk and click View Details.
  3. Under the heading Manage Webhosting (middle of the page), click on Websites & Domains.
  4. You will now be automatically logged into the Plesk Control Panel.

WP Toolkit: Scan, Install, Detach and Remove

Scan searches your hosting account for existing WordPress installations and adds them to WP Toolkit. This is useful if you've installed WordPress manually or migrated a website and want to manage it through the WP Toolkit dashboard. Scanning only detects and registers existing websites; it does not change any files or settings.

Install creates a new WordPress website in a few clicks, including the database and administrator account. See for more information WordPress: Install. After the installation you can login using the Login button or the guide WordPress: Login and Dashboard.

Remove permanently deletes a WordPress installation and its associated data, so only use this option when you're sure the website is no longer needed. If you only want to stop managing a site through WP Toolkit without deleting it, use Detach instead.

WP Toolkit: Debugging and Maintenance

Debugging

Helps you troubleshoot WordPress issues by enabling WordPress debug mode. This can reveal error messages, warnings, and other technical information that may help identify problems with plugins, themes, or custom code.  When enabled, these error messages are displayed directly at the top of your website or WordPress Dashboard. It's a useful tool when your website isn't behaving as expected, but it should be disabled once troubleshooting is finished, as displaying debug information can expose sensitive technical details to visitors.

Maintenance mode

Temporarily displays a maintenance page to visitors while you work on your website. This allows you to perform updates or make changes without exposing incomplete work or potential issues to your visitors. Once you're finished, disable maintenance mode to make the website publicly accessible again. The same result can also be achieved using a Maintenance plugin like Maintenance, but WP Toolkit allows you to enable and disable maintenance mode directly from the hosting control panel without logging in to WordPress.

When Maintenance mode is enabled through WP Toolkit, access to the WordPress REST API (wp-json) is also restricted. As a result, plugins, themes, and external services that rely on REST API connections may stop functioning correctly until Maintenance mode is disabled. This can affect integrations such as mobile apps, headless WordPress setups, external content synchronization, or plugins that retrieve data from external sources through the WordPress API.

Check WordPress Integrity

Verifies that your WordPress core files match the official WordPress release. If WP Toolkit detects missing, modified, or unexpected files, it may indicate a failed update, file corruption, or a potential security issue. Running an integrity check is a quick way to confirm that the core WordPress installation is intact and has not been altered unexpectedly.

If issues are found, it can also be used to reinstall the WordPress core files. This provides a fast and convenient way to repair a damaged WordPress installation without affecting your website content, uploads, plugins, themes, or settings. Reinstalling the core files can often resolve problems caused by corrupted or missing WordPress files while preserving the rest of your website.

WP Toolkit: Manage Plugins and switch Theme

Plugins allows you to view, install, activate, deactivate, update, and remove WordPress plugins directly from WP Toolkit. This makes it easy to keep your website secure and up to date without logging in to the WordPress dashboard. You can also control the automatic updates for the plugins and theme's, for this see the guide WordPress: Update Plugins, Theme and WordPress Core.
