How to use the Cloud86 mailserver with an external webiste?

In some cases, you may have a hosting package with us, but your website is hosted elsewhere (such as WIX, Weebly, or another hosting provider). If you still want to use our mail server for your domain, you will need to make some changes to your DNS and hosting package settings. Follow the steps below to continue using your email in this case.

Step 1: Managing DNS in My Cloud86

Start by logging in to My Cloud86. Click on "Domain Names" in the left menu and then on "Manage DNS". Then click on the icon to edit the DNS zone to the right of the relevant domain name. Here you will see an overview of all the DNS records for your domain.

Step 2: Adjusting DNS records

In the overview of the DNS records for your domain, first delete the record with the name "mail" and the type "CNAME". Then choose "Add Record". The name is "mail", the type is an "A" record. The value is the IP address of the Plesk server where your domain is hosted, and then click "Add Record".

Finally, modify the MX record, changing the RDATA (value) to "". Once you have made these three changes, choose "Save Changes" at the bottom.

Step 3: Mail settings

Finally, we need a new value for our incoming and outgoing server, because the domain name itself refers to a different IP address. To do this, go to Plesk and the URL you see there is the server name.

See the example below:

In this example, you can now retrieve your email using the incoming and outgoing server:

IMAP (incoming server)
Server: (You can find this in Plesk!)
SSL port: 993
Non-SSL port: 143

SMTP (outgoing server)
Server: (You can find this in Plesk!)
SSL port: 465
TLS port: 587
Non-SSL port: 25

POP3 (incoming server)
Server: (You can find this in Plesk!)
SSL port: 995
Non-SSL port: 110
