In this guide, we will explain how to link your own domain to Microsoft 365, so that you can use it for Mail and Office.
Step 1: Login to Microsoft 365
Log in to your Microsoft 365 account.
Step 2: Link Domain
Once logged in, the first step is to link a domain. To do this, go to 'Admin'.
Step 3: Domains
Click on the three dots and then select 'Show all'.
Then click on 'Settings -> Domains'.
Step 4: Add Domain
To add a domain, click on 'Add domain'.
Here you can enter the domain name you want to use.
Step 5: Verify Domain
To verify that you own the domain, select the top option: 'Add a TXT record to the domain's DNS'.
Step 6: Add Verification Records to DNS
To verify that you own the domain, a record must be created in the DNS. These records are displayed by Microsoft and can be copied to the Cloud86 DNS.
To create the records in the DNS, go to DNS management at mijn.cloud86.nl for the relevant domain.
Click on 'Add record'.
Then copy the information from the Microsoft page, as shown in the screenshot above. First, change the 'Type' record to TXT, then in the 'Name' field, add the @ symbol. Next, copy the TXT value into the 'Value' field.
Once this has been added correctly, you can click on 'Verify' in Microsoft.
Step 7: Create Other DNS Records
After the verification is successful, you will be asked 'How do you want to link your domain?' You can simply click 'Continue'.
To use Microsoft 365, three types of records must be created: MX, CNAME & TXT.
- The first record to create is the MX record, which is unique for each domain name. You click on the arrow to display the records. For the MX record, you can simply update the default record. Then click 'Save changes'.
- We add the CNAME record in the same way as the TXT record.
- Finally, the TXT SPF record must be added, which we add to the existing SPF record. Copy 'include:spf.protection.outlook.com' and paste it after the IP address and before the -all.
Step 8: Completion
After you have created all the records, click 'Continue'.
If the information is correct, you will see the page below and you are done linking your domain!
Note: It may take up to 4 hours for these changes in the DNS to be fully propagated.
