In this tutorial, we explain how to create a user after connecting your domain and then how to apply the license in your Microsoft 365 environment.
Microsoft 365: Creating User
- Login with your Microsoft 365 administrator account: admin.microsoft.com.
- In the Microsoft 365 admin center, in the left menu go to Users and then Active Users. In this overview, you can also see all the users and what licenses they have.
- To add a new user, click Add a user.
- Enter the basic information of the user you want to create.
- We recommend turning on the Automatically Create a Password and Require this user to change the password the first time they log in. Then click Next.
- Here you can assign a license to the account. If you have no more licenses available then you can order new licenses via Microsoft 365: Order additional license(s). Then click Next.
-
Optional: Here you can give the new account management rights. You can also use the default administrator account (admin@domain.onmicrosoft.com), in case you lose access to your new account. You can set up admin roles by Roles and Admin center access. If you want all access you will have to check Global administrator.
- Click on Next and Finish adding. You can now see the password for the new account (Show), or if you provided an email address in step 5, you will get an email with the password.
Microsoft 365: Applying or modifying license
If you have an existing user then you can modify that user's license with the following steps:
- Login with your Microsoft 365 administrator account: admin.microsoft.com.
- In the Microsoft 365 administration center, in the left menu go to Users and then Active Users. In this overview, you can see all the users and what license(s) they have.
- Click on the Display Name of the user for which you want to add or change a license.
- A pop-up menu will now appear on the right, click on the Licenses and apps tab here.
- Choose the license you want to activate for the user and select Save changes.
