File transfer protocol (FTP) is a protocol that facilitates the exchange of files between computers. It is possible to use FTP to exchange files between our web hosting servers and the local computer. This guide explains how to set up an FTP connection so that you can access the files of your website.
FTP Alternatives
Besides FTP, you can also upload files directly to Plesk by using the file manager in Plesk. If you are logged into Plesk, you can click on Files in the left menu to edit or upload/download directly. Another alternative to FTP is to use external git hosting, such as GitHub and GitLab. To do this, click git at the domain you want to set this up for.

If you cannot connect to the FTP server, check the server name/ip address (guide) and reset the password (guide). If this still doesn't work, please send a screenshot with the settings to the support desk, so we can have a look with you.
SFTP
SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) is a variant of FTP that uses a secure SSH (Secure Shell) connection. This allows files to be exchanged securely and encrypted between computers. To use SFTP, SSH access is required. SSH access is included as standard with all our plans. You can follow the instructions in our manual Connect with SSH.
